Case Study Examples and Animations

for SHEBA Investigations

Five periods during SHEBA were chosen for case studies at the July 2001 SHEBA meeting:
Jan    14-20
April 25-29
May  20-24
July   20-24
July 28 - Aug 2

Below are links to animations of surface temperature and albedo fields for these periods.
Animations also include a few days before and after the study period.  The two July periods
are combined into one animation.  The region includes the area highlighted in green below.

The animations are animated gif files and are fairly large:  5 to 11 megs
The temperature color scales:  darker = warmer
The year and day of year are included in the images.
The temperature gifs are twice per day:  dirurnal changes can be seen during summer.
Albedo gifs are once per day.

ICE AND SHIP DRIFT, RECONSTRUCTED FROM REMOTELY-SENSED ICE MOTION DATA:

Was the SHEBA ship movement in 1997-1998 unusual?  (Estimated drift tracks for other years.)

Where did the ice found at the SHEBA deployment location in September 1997 come from (or, what was the drift history of ice in this area)? (Location history of the ice at the SHEBA fied site.)
