Ice Drift Predictor - Help

Usage:

Output: select desired output

Pole: select hemisphere

Other Parameters: The simulator runs forward in time by default. Select reverse to see possible previous locations of the ice. The variability of the ice motion can also be included in the simulation, and the number of standard deviations can be selected.

Time period of the data average: choose a full 23 yr mean motion or monthly 23 yr averages

Simulation variables: If the variability is selected, the a final points will be plotted for each simulation, and the full track will be plotted for the mean motion without variability.
Also, select the number of days the simulation is to run.

Starting day: Enter starting day as month/day or day-of-year

Starting point: Enter starting point by selecting the "Change starting point" button, and clicking in the image. As an alternative, the exact lat/lon values can be entered into the appropriate windows.

Subsections: plots can be limited to selected regions

Information:

The drift simulator uses average ice motion statistics. Several parameters can be used for the simulation.
A choice between two data sets can be made, either a 23 yr mean or 23 yr monthly means. The variability of the ice motion can be included into the simulations. Multiple simulations with the variability can demonstrate the range and distribution of possible outcomes. The amount of variability (standard deviation) can also be adjusted. The plot region and starting points can be tailored to specific needs.
An effort has been made to anticipate the possible uses of the simulator and to make it as robust as possible.
